Senior IP Paralegal

Summary

Our client seeks a Senior Paralegal – Intellectual Property (“senior paralegal”) to support the Intellectual Property and Technology (IPT) transactions group in our New York office. Under the direction of the IPT attorneys, the senior paralegal will provide support on IP aspects of transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform registered IP diligence, including ownership, security interests, chain of title analysis, oppositions, and similar issues. This would apply to all forms of registered IP, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks.
  • Prepare and file documentation with USPTO, USCO, and WIPO, including assignment agreements, change of name filings, and security interests.
  • Assist with trademark clearance searches.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of applications for trademark and copyright registration. Patent prosecution experience is not necessary.
  • Assist with analyzing questions regarding the registration and prosecution process for copyrights, trademarks, and patents.
  • Conduct legal research as needed, under the supervision of IPT attorneys.
  • Provide administrative assistance in connection with IPT workstreams, such as maintaining files and reviewing and arranging for payment of vendors’ invoices.
  • Handle additional projects as assigned.

In addition, responsibilities related to maintaining firm and client information are to be adhered to by all employees. This includes complying with the firm’s information security policies, protecting firm assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference, and reporting security events or potential events or other security risks to management.

Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. required.
  • Minimum of three years of immediate prior IP paralegal experience supporting transactional matters.
  • High proficiency with USPTO, USCO and WIPO databases and filing systems, including substantial experience in preparation and filing of documentation with USPTO, USCO, and WIPO, such as assignment agreements, change of name filings and security interests.
  • Substantial experience in preparation and filing of applications for copyright and trademark registration. Patent prosecution experience is not necessary.
  • High proficiency with international IP search databases.
  • Experience in WHOIS domain name searches.
  • Substantial familiarity with Seagis and Corsearch.
  • Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills; an ability to work effectively with a wide-range of lawyers and staff and a commitment to responsiveness.
  • Ability to handle multiple, concurrent projects and generate quality work product in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours, as necessary.

Compensation

The base salary range offered for this role will be between $100,000 and $125,000.  When determining a candidate’s compensation offer, elements unique to each person are taken into consideration including but not limited to skill set, experience level, performance, professional certifications, degrees and location, as well as the needs of the Firm. The total compensation package for this position may include overtime pay, discretionary bonuses and other benefits.
