Senior Accountant
Job Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting as well as being the primary day-to-day contact for Accounts Payable, Payroll, T&E, the other New York departments, the US regional offices and the International offices.
Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions
- Safeguard the Firm’s assets by ensuring the timely and accurate completion of bank reconciliations and account analyses, review of the offices’ monthly financials and investigation of any unusual items and monitoring and resolving positive pay exceptions.
- Bring any potential problems or irregularities to the attention of the Accounting Manager immediately when suspected.
- Continuous review of internal controls and recommendations on how to strengthen the process.
- Supervise the monthly close process and ensure that the monthly financial package is prepared accurately and in accordance with the firm’s modified cash basis of accounting.
- Prepare the annual financial statements for the firm and the annual pension plans, and provide the external auditors with information and replies to questions in a timely manner.
- Supervise and train two Staff Accountants, review and approve their journal entries, account analyses, bank reconciliations, etc. and manage their PTO, attendance and performance reviews.
- Act as liaison with other NY departments, US offices and International offices regarding accounting policies, procedures and general accounting or finance questions.
- Special projects and other responsibilities as required by management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Five plus years of experience in public accounting, the legal industry or a corporate accounting department.
- Solid US GAAP accounting knowledge. Experience with consolidations is a plus.
- Excellent Excel skills required.
- Must be able to manage time and multiple assignments.
- Must be able to direct two staff members as well as work as part of a larger team.
- Good communication skills required, as it will be necessary to interface with the US and International offices as well as the various New York departments and US offices.
- Able and willing to travel to other Firml offices including the International offices.
- Must be able to work overtime\weekends if necessary.
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- CPA a plus.
