The Litigation Paralegal for the New York office will be a valued member of our client’s Underwriting team, providing a vital service to our client’s evaluation and management of litigation investments. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and case file completeness and accuracy, as well as a track record for docket and document management in a complex legal environment are the keys to success in this role. The Litigation Paralegal will be a collaborative team player with the credentials, experience and temperament to manage a busy case load with calm and ease, as well as to suggest and implement improvements to global processes and standards. It is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious paralegal seeking an “outside the box” position in which to take on new challenges and grow professionally.

The role will report to the Underwriting Paralegal Manager and be based in our client’s New York office.

Responsibilities

  • Experience and knowledge of the State and Federal Court system and filings. Understanding of legal procedures, terminology and documentation.
  • Request, assemble, organize, and upload diligence documents for potential investments during underwriting review and for case filings and related documents for litigation in our investment portfolio into iManage.
  • Legal Research: Pull dockets, court filings, articles and other items for attorneys
  • Responsible for maintaining the accuracy and completeness of the pipeline case/litigation records in Salesforce, including set up and monitoring of electronic dockets, case contacts, upcoming due dates, and other background data on the litigation
  • Administering the execution, distribution, and electronic archiving of legal documents including NDA’s and deal closing documents via DocuSign
  • Entry of financial and ownership data into Salesforce at investment execution and preparation of follow-on funding requests for investments that require ongoing funding, bill collection and review as necessary
  • Run pipeline and portfolio reports summarizing recent and upcoming activity for weekly meetings, chase any missing entries, circulate agendas, and attend meetings
  • Participation in Underwriting Paralegal team projects to standardize and improve efficiencies of underwriting practices globally
  • Documentation of Underwriting process and procedures
  • Maintenance of the Salesforce user manual

Qualifications

  • Paralegal certification or college degree plus equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a fast-paced litigation firm in a role that includes docket tracking and case file management
  • Experience with PACER, Bloomberg Law, Lexis and similar legal applications
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint; Excel skills is a plus
  • Prior experience with Salesforce and/or iManage highly desirable
  • Familiarity with running redlines, conforming pages and editing documents in Adobe a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Pro-active, self-starter who completes assignments on time with limited supervision
  • Problem solver; able to adapt to Our client’s hybrid finance/legal requirements with innovative solutions
  • Flexible working style; willing to take on whatever is needed for the business and multi-task among many small daily responsibilities and some larger project work
  • Extremely organized, strong attention to detail, and the ability to follow-through independently
  • Effective interpersonal skills to gain the confidence and trust of the attorney Underwriters, as well as the ability to ensure their adherence to institutional norms and global standards with a soft touch
  • Team Player; able to assist and cover for fellow Underwriting Paralegals in other Offices as needed
  • New York Notary Public

Compensation

The base compensation range for this role is $65,000-$85,000. Our client also pays a discretionary annual bonus and provides welcome RSUs to all full-time employees.
