Legal AI Solutions Attorney
New York, NY
Summary
A premier, global law firm is seeking a Legal AI Solutions Attorney to join its AI and Knowledge department. This is a hands-on, technically fluent role operating at the intersection of legal practice and technical expertise. Drawing on experience as a practicing attorney, the Legal AI Solutions Attorney will translate the firm’s legal expertise into practical AI tools and workflows, breaking down complex workflows into clear, executable inputs, building prompts, processes, and lightweight automations.
The Legal AI Solutions Attorney will identify high-value pain points, prototype and ship workflows, and help ensure that they are reliable, practical, and ready for firm use. This role also supports firmwide AI adoption through guidance, training, and hands-on enablement. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, legally minded, and eager to solve complex problems.
Responsibilities
- Partner directly with attorneys and business professionals across practice groups and departments to surface high-value, function-specific pain points, translating them into concrete AI-enabled workflows.
- Design, build, and iterate on advanced prompts, prompt libraries, and multi-step agentic workflows, progressing ideas into reliable, repeatable tools.
- Evaluate and test workflows for quality, accuracy, and reliability; build in human review checkpoints and guardrails appropriate to legal work, professional responsibility obligations, and business and administrative work.
- Serve as a hands-on resource and trusted advisor to attorneys and business professionals through one-on-one coaching, workshops, and office hours, supporting AI tool use and workflow development.
- Develop training curricula, playbooks, and reference materials that enhance AI fluency firmwide; translate technical AI concepts into practical guidance for non-technical audiences.
- Maintain and refine deployed workflows; update prompts, sources, and guardrails as models, platforms, and firm needs evolve.
- In collaboration with colleagues in Practice and Client Solutions, track adoption, usage, and impact metrics for deployed workflows and training programs firmwide, using those insights to prioritize ongoing development and enablement needs.
- Stay current on the legal AI vendor and tooling landscape; evaluate new tools and techniques for relevance to both legal and business functions.
- Collaborate closely with Knowledge & Innovation, Information Systems, Information Security, and Professional Development to ensure workflows and training are aligned, secure, and well-supported.
- Serve as a key liaison to Information Systems in testing and integrating AI tools with firm systems, working within their processes and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for Law, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required.
- Admitted to practice, having passed a state bar examination; New York bar admission preferred.
- 4+ years of legal practice experience in a BigLaw or comparable professional services environment; in-house experience also considered.
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience with prompt engineering, AI workflow or tool development, or comparable technical experimentation.
- Understanding of retrieval augmented generation (RAG) concepts, workflow automation, and the general legal AI vendor landscape.
- Experience designing or delivering training and enablement content, with the ability to make technical concepts accessible to audiences at all levels of technical comfort.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, with the ability to scope problems, build prototypes, gather feedback, and refine solutions for production.
- Ability to work independently in a senior role, with the initiative to set priorities, manage workload, and drive projects forward with minimal direction.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the credibility and interpersonal presence to earn trust from Partners, senior attorneys, and business leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and present with confidence to senior stakeholders and Partners.
- Sound judgment about where AI is, and is not, the right tool; an instinct for risk, confidentiality, compliance, and quality control across both legal and business output.
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and a clear understanding of the confidentiality obligations that come with working in a law firm.
