Summary
A leading global law firm is seeking an experienced Docket Clerk to join our Managing Clerks Office in our New York office. The Docket Clerk will be primarily responsible for assisting the Managing Clerk and the Assistant Managing Clerk with the total operation of the Managing Clerks Office.
Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the job include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Docketing: Responsible for the accurate inputting, docketing, and adjourning of all state and federal courts related dates and any other court-imposed deadlines, responses, replies, correspondence or other commitments that Firm attorneys need to be notified about via the firm-wide eDocket web calendar (i.e.: motion dates, conference dates, adjourned dates, court appearances, depositions, trial dates, appeal time deadlines etc).
- This information generally comes from Court Notices/Decision received from Court or Attorneys, Court Notices/Pleadings from Litigation mail, NextGen CM/ECF or NYSCEF notices received from Court, e-mail from attorneys, Court filing done by MCO, and Court filing done by our adversaries.
- Monitoring: Online and manually the following:
- Cases in the Appellate Divisions, Supreme Courts, U.S.O.C.A., USDC-EDNY/SDNY and other federal courts where we have actions pending via the various on-line programs that the Managing Clerks Office has for any new NextGen CM/ECF or NYSCEF filings, decisions/orders, conferences, motions, trial date etc. and downloading orders for docketing.
- Several large high-profile cases in the various state and federal courts
- Create docket tracks/alerts for attorneys upon request in Westlaw, eTrack & eLaw
- Check daily/weekly for “case specific” parties in the various state and federal courts as requested by attorneys
- Maintenance of internal MCO charts and logs re: court practices/procedures, attorneys’ admissions and NextGen CM/ECF & NYSCEF credentials
- NextGen CM/ECF and NYSCEF Filing: Filing of documents via NYSCEF in the various e-filing State courts (i.e. Appellate, Supreme, Criminal, Family, NYC Civil, Surrogate) and via NextGen CM/ECF in the various e-filing 94 district courts and 12 courts of appeals
- New Case Matters:
- Opening new cases in eDocket whenever a New Matter email is sent out; a new summons & complaint is filed by the Firm, local counsel, or an adversary; and as instructed by attorneys
- Closing out cases in eDocket whenever a stipulation of discontinuance is filed, the attorney(s) on the case advises to close the case, and a Closed Case email is sent out
- Litigation Mail: Scanning, docketing and emailing attorneys re: litigation mail and legal pleadings sent to the firm via first class mail, fed ex or hand delivery.
- Interact one-on-one with partners, associates, and support staffs regarding case status; accurately explain in details court rules, court practices, court procedures and in general to maintain a constant and open channel of communication.
- Keep abreast of rules and procedures of the various state and federal court judges as it pertains to motion practices and court procedures, including reviewing resources such as state and federal court handbooks and procedures
- Fulfill the requirements of any other job/descriptions within the department when needed and to assist with other miscellaneous duties/projects within the department whenever needed.
Requirements
- Have a strong knowledge of federal and state court rules, court practice and court procedures.
- Have prior docketing experience and familiarity with e-Docket, Compulaw, Milana or MA3000.
- Have experience with NextGenCM/ECF and NYSCEF system.
- Familiarity with Westlaw, eTrack elaw and PACERPRO.
- Be highly competent and able to work independently with little supervision.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills.
- At least 2 to 4 years of e-filing and docketing law firm experience.
Compensation
- The expected base salary range is $75,000.00-$95,000.00, annually and is dependent on experience plus overtime and bonus.
