Summary
Our client seeks a conflicts group manager to join its team! The Conflicts Group Manager is an attorney who manages and directs all aspects of the conflicts department and reports directly to the Office of the General Counsel. The Group Manager oversees the process of conflict checking from initial submission of a matter through resolution of all conflict issues and is responsible for workflow coordination and escalation of issues with clients and third parties to maintain good relationships; provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. In addition, the Conflicts Group Manager acts as one of the Conflicts Attorneys and has the same responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Management of group members, including scheduling and work flow. Because of the location of members of the conflicts group, portions of such management may be virtual.
- Verify that all conflicts searching is complete, consistent, and accurate and that all Firm conflicts procedures are followed.
- Respond to calls, emails and workflow requests from Firm attorneys, paralegals, and assistants regarding the new business intake process.
- Assign conflicts searches and necessary research, and be available as fill in to perform such work when staffing is reduced or work flow demands.
- Follow up on and resolve new business and conflict issues when necessary.
- Collaborate with conflicts group team members and Office of the General Counsel with attention to deadlines and time-sensitive issues.
- Remain abreast of “best practices” and new developments for identifying and resolving potential ethical conflicts in the Firm’s new business efforts.
- Contribute to process, procedure, and technology improvements to reduce risk and improve efficiency.
- Develop and track metrics of productivity, and other key performance indicators for the team, and proposes strategies to improve results.
- Process and maintenance of new business documentation, such as Outside Counsel Guidelines (after review and approval by Office of General Counsel), engagement letters, and informed consents.
- Assist in the development and training of other conflicts group members.
- Potential additional tasks and responsibilities that will be identified as the role and the group develop.
- In addition to the essential functions outlined above:
- Individual in this position will provide additional assistance and support as directed by their supervisor.
- Job may require occasional travel to the firm’s other offices and for external events

Qualifications
- JD (current licensure is optional) with five years of experience managing people and experience in risk management, corporate research, conflicts searching, or related legal experience.
- The position requires a minimum of five years of practice experience as a lawyer in a mid-size to large law firm.
- Experience in the area of conflicts of interest law and/or professional responsibility is preferred.
- It is preferred that the Group Manager have experience working within automated conflicts checking systems and/or corporate research in a law firm environment, including Intapp, automated financial management system such as Elite; Intapp conflicts system; MS Word; Excel; intranet research in document management system such as IManage; and internet research related to corporate family relationships.
- Must possess a collaborative mindset, be willing to take a hands-on approach, apply a high degree of accuracy and ability to maintain confidentiality as it relates to their work product, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Be comfortable working with people of all levels within the Firm and managing other professionals and staff.
- Must have experience training a team and possess a strong sense of personal accountability for the success of the team and the Firm.
- Must have exceptional customer services skills, critical thinking and strong judgment and decision-making skills.
- Be available for emergency overtime during evening hours, weekends, and certain holidays as needed.
- Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities as the role and the group develop.

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time (working at a computer)
- Repetitive movement (i.e. heavy computer/keyboard use).
- Individual will interact regularly with others verbally, in-person, and via written communication.
- May require occasional light lifting (files, copy paper, etc.).
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $150,000 – $185,000, exempt. Compensation depends on experience and qualifications.
