Conflicts Attorney
Reports to Head of Conflicts & New Business Intake, Conflicts & New Business Intake
Summary
The Conflicts Attorney will be responsible for assisting with the review, identification, analysis, and resolution of potential conflicts issues with respect to clients, matters and incoming lawyers firm-wide. Incumbent will actively engage and follow-up on conflicts clearance with all responsible parties handling new engagements and coordinating lateral hires. This position will report to the Head of the NBI and Conflicts Department and will work closely with the Conflicts Department and members of the Firm’s Conflicts & Ethics Committee.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists Partners with review and analysis of conflicts reports to facilitate conflicts clearance decisions in the new business and new lawyer and legal assistant hire processes
- Ensures all potential conflict issues related to NMI submissions are addressed in a timely manner, this may include the need to personally verify information contained in the report by calling or visiting relevant lawyers
- Exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to the identification and resolution of potential conflicts of interest
- Works closely with Partners and members of the Conflicts & Ethics Committee to implement and maintain screening requirements
- Ensures that waivers are obtained for new matters and laterals as required
- Drafts various documents, including conflicts waivers, ethical screen memos and others as required
- Analyzes and reviews new business forms and provides support in the new business intake process as needed
- Remains current with laws and rules pertaining to conflicts of interest and Rules of Professional Conduct in each jurisdiction where our offices are located
- Assists in ensuring information in conflicts database is current, accurate and complete by identifying, researching and deleting out of date information in consultation with responsible lawyers
- Performs various special projects and duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Superior business and legal research skills using both electronic and print resources
- Strong legal and business analysis skills
- High level of organizational awareness and understanding of the legal business

- Exceptional communication skills including ability to effectively communicate in writing or verbally at all levels of organization
- Strong client service orientation with ability to resolve complex issues in a matrix organization
- Demonstrated sense of urgency and commitment to deliver expected results
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and deliver expected results on multiple projects in a timely manner
- Familiarity with automated conflict of interest workflow procedures and systems in not required but strongly preferred
- MS Office proficiency
Education & Experience
- Juris Doctorate and current admission to NY bar required
- Knowledge of and hands on experience with Rules of Professional Conduct required
- Conflicts clearance experience in law firm environment strongly preferred

- Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours including weekends
