Business Development Specialist

Summary

Our client, an AmLaw 50 law firm,, has an opening for a Business Development Specialist within their Marketing team. This role can be based in San Francisco, Palo Alto or San Diego. The Business Development Specialist works closely with assigned practice groups to develop and sustain loyal client base for increased work, revenues, and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Make recommendations into, create, and implement business development plans.
  • Research and identify opportunities for promoting and cross‑selling.
  • Conduct research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships, expand the client base, and increase external and internal visibility.
  • Execute on targeted marketing methods including social media strategies, events, CLE seminars, organizational affiliations, and initiatives.
  • Develop customized pitches/RFPs, presentations, and marketing materials.
  • Ensure meticulous execution of all projects and work, with data and content consistently accurate and well presented.
  • Attain synergies for all marketing programs through effective collaboration.
  • Ensure client service and satisfaction are attained in all areas of the position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. At least four years of relevant experience in professional services marketing; law firm experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of core marketing principles including driving innovative tools and programs, competitive intelligence, market research, and pitch and RFP responses.
  • High degree of motivation, with driving sense of responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Excellent writing skills.  Ability to focus written materials to ensure impact on general business, legal, and niche populations.
  • Excellent attention to detail in all areas, including writing, copy editing, researching, and managing data.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines.
  • Strong business acumen; the ability to recognize marketing and business development opportunities and to pursue them strategically.
  • Ability to quickly assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions, including ability to draw clear conclusions from a diverse collection of data.
  • Talent for creating client satisfaction; demonstrated ability to focus on the client value in all work.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $104,000, nonexempt. Please see below for location-specific ranges. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO. The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities/states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following: local market data and ranges; an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience; and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications.

San Francisco, Palo Alto salary range: $70k to $104k

San Diego salary range: $65k to $98k
