Summary

The Managing Attorney’s Office manages the firm’s interactions with the courts. The Assistant Managing Attorney assists the Managing Attorney in analyzing complex procedural and strategic issues in state and federal courts for the firms’ attorneys and paralegals. The Assistant Managing Attorney also assists in supervising the department’s five law clerks, who file papers for attorneys, serve process, obtain documents in court and from government agencies, facilitate communication with court personnel, manage the firm’s calendar, track litigation activity and monitor deadlines. Responsibilities include reviewing filings as to form and procedural content, assisting attorneys in gaining admission to courts, and coordinating with other departments at the firm to fulfill attorney research requests. The Assistant Managing Attorney also assists with department administration and leads the department when the Managing Attorney is not available.

Requirements

The demands of the position vary widely day-to-day and require someone who is both dynamic and flexible. A successful candidate must have or demonstrate the ability to develop a working knowledge of court rules and procedures for local courts and to apply those rules quickly and communicate them clearly both verbally and in writing. The department serves an important risk management role, so strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills also are crucial. The ideal candidate will have well developed and professional interpersonal skills and a customer service oriented-mindset.

The office is staffed weekdays from 9 AM to 6 PM and the position requires availability during those hours, but work on nights and weekends may sometimes be required. This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule. A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school is required, as well as current bar admission in the State of New York.

Compensation: $120,000 – $140,000
