AI Architect-LASER
New York, NY
Position Summary
A premier, global law firm seeks an Architect to design, build, and maintain AI-enabled workflows and tools within LASER (Lawyer-Augmented Solutions Engineering & Research). The role operates across three lanes: embedded with practice groups on AI module development, building centralized tools and workflows within LASER, and personally getting hands-on with solutions. The Architect will own slices of the firm’s AI Studio marketplace lifecycle — from publication through monitoring and retirement.
Responsibilities
- Own intake and triage for assigned LASER requests; identify patterns suitable for productization or large-scale training
- Design, build, and validate AI workflows, prompts, templates, and specifications for the AI Marketplace
- Embed with practice groups and matter teams to understand legal workflows and identify high-value AI opportunities
- Validate AI Marketplace tool outputs against precedents and edge cases; document limitations, QC checks, and known failure modes
- Manage attorney and Knowledge Management review cycles; own iterations and maintain release notes
- Own assigned portions of the AI Studio lifecycle: publishing, versioning, adoption monitoring, and flagging tools for retirement
- Conduct usage and cost analytics; translate findings into recommendations for prioritization and investment
- Review developer output and translate between technical and legal stakeholders
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by management
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience across legal practice, legal operations, legal technology, product management, or professional services
- Ability to read and understand code at a functional level — not required to write production code, but must be comfortable reviewing developer output and understanding what it does
- Strong writing and communication skills; able to engage independently with attorneys at all levels of seniority, including partners
- Deep understanding of — or demonstrated ability to rapidly learn — how legal work flows at a large law firm (deal lifecycle, diligence, document production, negotiations)
- AI tool fluency with a verification-first mindset: validates and stress-tests outputs, not just generates them
- Quantitative comfort: usage analytics, adoption metrics, ROI framing, cost tracking
- Client-service orientation; manages multiple workstreams under tight timelines with minimal oversight
- Bachelor’s degree required; relevant advanced degree (J.D., M.Sc. in Computer Science, M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, or similar) preferred but not required if professional experience demonstrates equivalent depth
