Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Summary
This position will closely partner with the Chief Financial Officer in managing the functions of: General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Client Receipts, Client Trust Accounts and Partner Compensation. This role will be expected to independently and proactively identify and implement process enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy. This role requires both strategic oversight and hands-on execution of accounting operations. The Accounting Manager oversees staff within the functional areas, provides overall supervision, coaching, performance management.
Relationships
Works closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Finance, and Firm Management, and interacts regularly with partners, associates, and administrative staff.
Functions
- Partner closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee and strengthen the firm’s general accounting operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with legal industry standards.
- Manage day-to-day general accounting activities, including accounts payable, client receipts, and client trust account transactions. Ensure timely and accurate processing of all incoming and outgoing payments, while maintaining compliance with applicable trust accounting regulations.
- Collaborate with the Senior Staff Accountant to maintain accurate general ledger (GL) records and perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
- Review and prepare monthly journal entries; ensure accurate expense coding and recommend corrections or reclassifications as needed.
- Oversee all aspects of partner compensation accounting, including the calculation, scheduling, and disbursement of draws and distributions, as well as the management of year-end allocations and reporting. Ensure data accuracy and transparency in all partner-related financial matters.
- Generate and distribute regular financial and statistical reports for firm leadership, including daily cash position updates, monthly financial summaries, and custom reports as needed.
- Assist with the coordination of the annual audit process and the preparation of financial statements in collaboration with external auditors.
- Maintain active relationships with the firm’s banking partners and oversee the resolution of transactional and online banking issues.
- Lead or support finance-related projects aimed at improving accounting workflows, automation, and overall operational efficiency. Current initiatives include the implementation of additional financial system modules and enhanced reporting capabilities.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher with a concentration in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in law firm accounting, with strong exposure to partner compensation, general ledger management, and trust accounting. At least 5 years in a management or supervisory role within a professional services or legal environment.

Salary: $170,000.00-$220,000.00, plus bonus. The salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc.
This is a hybrid role with the expectation of 3 days in the office.
