Senior Career Development Manager

Summary

The Senior Career Development Manager will report to the firm’s Director of Career Development and be part of the Professional Development Department. The Senior Career Development Manager will primarily focus on developing and assisting in the execution of career development initiatives with an emphasis on coaching and career advising, and including training and programming.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Career Development, the Senior Career Development Manager will:

  • Develop and implement new career development initiatives for attorneys across the firm’s departments, practice groups and offices.
  • Manage and maintain the firm’s external coaching roster, including:
  • Managing individual coaching engagements with external coaches.
  • Identifying new areas for coaching and potential coaches for roster and managing contractual relationships.
  • Developing and implementing effective processes to track and evaluate all external coaching engagements and to evaluate outcomes, themes and feedback around engagements.
  • Take lead role with lateral associate integration and development, including individual career advising.
  • Manage Career Development Plan collection process and leverage data in associate plans
  • to inform curricula and L&D strategy.
  • Assist team with firm-wide conferences and department and practice group programing, including:
    • Orientation and milestone conferences for associates, such as New Associate
    • Orientation and Mid-level Associate Conference
    • Practice group specific programing around professional skills, including communication, management and leadership
    • Partner programing and workshops, including New Partner Orientation and ongoing series
  • Update and maintain career development forms and marketing materials, including periodic internal/external updates and announcements.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving internal databases, including LMS and other records, to optimize user experience.
  • Initiate or assist in adoption of new technology initiatives in support of other duties.

Collaborate with various departments throughout the firm, including:

    • PD team members to develop programs and workshops.
    • Inclusion, Legal Personnel and Business Development to encourage opportunities and experiences and develop programming.
    • IT, graphic design and audio/visual professionals to deliver programming that is engaging and efficient to attendees.
  • Events department to ensure flawless program execution.

Requirements

  • JD degree, with 3+ years of legal practice experience, preferably in a large law firm.
  • 2+ years of professional development or legal personnel experience.
  • Familiar with and conversant in associate growth and development issues in law practice.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff throughout the firm on program development and delivery.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, including strong attention to detail in all written work.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as collaborate with others and work well in a team.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with an intense client service orientation.

Compensation: $175,000.00-$250,000.00, plus bonus.
