Summary

Premier, global, law firm is conducting a search for an experienced Intellectual Property Practice Assistant to assist Firm attorneys in their Charlotte office’s fast-paced IP Patent Group. Candidates should have previous work experience in the IP practice area, exceptional organizational skills, a working knowledge of general office procedures and filing techniques, along with attention to detail and the capability to concentrate on completing assigned tasks. Candidates should have the ability to work independently while handling complex tasks and situations. Must be able to work with a wide spectrum of individuals.

Essential Duties

The IP Practice Assistant performs a variety of billable duties including:  preparing and filing Information Disclosure Statements; reviewing Notice to File Missing Parts and preparing related documents; reporting filing receipts, assignment recordings, and publications to clients; filing patent applications with the USPTO and other governing bodies.  The IP Practice Assistant will use skills and experience in preparing forms for filing with the USPTO, and should have the capability to concentrate on detailed work, and the ability to work with a wide spectrum of individuals.

Skills Needed to be Successful

Ideal candidates are analytical, responsible, self-starters with knowledge of the USPTO; must also have a working knowledge of the process for prosecuting a patent from beginning to end, including PCT applications and correspondence with foreign associates, docketing and monitoring deadlines, and maintaining documents and information in client portals. Heavy administrative work and case management. Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel. Preferred skills include proven ability to accurately prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements. Experience in other USPTO-related document preparation and filing highly preferred.

The hours of the position are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Candidates must have some flexibility to stay beyond normal working hours when workload demands. This position will be billing a percentage of the hours worked. 

Requirements

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must have a minimum of two plus years of intellectual property experience, and the ability to work well within a team. A Paralegal certificate is preferred, but not required.
