Patent Paralegal

Summary

Premier, forward thinking, global, law firm is conducting a search for an experienced IP Patents Paralegal to assist attorneys firm-wide in their fast paced IP Patents Group. Candidates should have previous work experience in Patents and an in depth understanding of USPTO practices and procedures. Candidates should also possess exceptional organizational skills, a working knowledge of general office procedure and filing techniques, along with a strong attention to detail and the ability to concentrate on competing assigned tasks.

Essential Duties 

  • Responsible for maintaining and managing heavy patent prosecution docket, including responsibility for ensuring deadlines are met, original correspondence is drafted, and tasks are handled
  • Ability to work effectively in an interactive, cross-office environment
  • Ability to ensure all deadlines are met timely
  • Ability to communicate with clients and foreign associates regarding prosecution deadlines and related matters
  • Knowledgeable in preparation and filing of US and international applications
  • Solid understanding of US patent prosecution life cycles
  • Special projects including assignment, intake, and due diligence projects as assigned
  • Proof and report Letters Patent documents

Skills Needed to be Successful

  • 5-10 years of experience in Patent Prosecution
  • Experience in Foreign Patent Prosecution strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently while handling complex tasks
  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 – 5:00, but must have the flexibility to work beyond normal working hours when necessary
  • Ability to meet the firm’s paralegal billing goal
  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or a certified paralegal certificate is required
