Report to Associate Director of Managing Clerks
Position Summary
As a member of the Managing Clerk’s Office, this experienced Office Clerk will assist the Associate Director of Managing Clerks, Assistant Managing Clerks and Database Manager in day to day functions of the Department. This includes those duties, accountabilities and responsibilities listed below as well as any other duties as required.
Responsibilities
- The docketing and calendaring of the Firm’s litigation and bankruptcy cases
- The filing of Firm documents electronically according to Firm and court procedures
- Advising associates and legal assistants regarding electronic filing procedures and protocols
- The routing and closing of Firm audit letters
- Conducting legal/docket research and docket conflicts checks
The Managing Clerk’s office is reponsibile for keeping track of all the Firm’s litigation by docketing and calendaring of all pleadings. Each case gets docketed into our docketing database by capturing the title of the case, case no., the court, the parties etc. Every pleading that comes into the Firm gets docketed under its corresponding case.
A calendar of due dates, e.g.. return dates of motions, deposition dates, UCC reminders for the corporate department, trademark reminders for IP Dept. are circulated by utilizing the docketing database along with the Outlook calendar. The Managing Clerk’s office will calendar any date that anyone within the Firm want to be reminded of (by sending us an email or sending the document).
The Office is also responsible for electronic serving, filing, accepting and processing of all pleadings.
Office Clerks function in a team environment with each team member assisting each other in order to assure that all tasks are completed. This position reports to the Associate Director of Managing Clerks, Assistant Managing Clerks and Database Manager.
Additional Responsibilities
- The ability and flexibility to work extended hours if needed.
- This position also assists with special projects as assigned by management
Qualifications
- At least 2-3 years of prior law clerk experience preferred with a particular knowledge of and experience with electronic filing procedures and protocols
- Knowledge of state and federal court procedures, service and filing requirements
- Working knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Acrobat (PDF), zip, scanning etc.
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage time and resources effectively with imminent deadlines
- Excellent organizations skills and attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate with others
- Good judgment
