Position Summary:
This Competitive Intelligence Research Associate will specialize in high-level research and analysis of companies, industries, markets, and competitors for partners, marketing managers, and senior administrators involved in business development, other marketing efforts as well as strategic firm initiatives on a global basis. The ideal candidate will assist the Competitive Intelligence Manager in providing top-notch competitive intelligence services to relevant internal clients; maintaining and improving the quality of CI reports; designing research plans for different projects; as well as mentoring a team of CI analysts. This position reports to the CI Manager.
Duties and Accountabilities:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis of companies, industries, markets, and competitors
- Critically evaluate and select information sources, and solve difficult and convoluted problems on various subjects in a time sensitive environment.
- Analyze, synthesize and distill complex facts and data into user-friendly reports with clear actions
- Present objective and actionable insights in concise and compelling ways
- Proactively monitor clients, competitor law firms, client’s competitors and industries, and global economic, political, and regulatory events using appropriate resources and research tools
- Stay current on news and trends relating to key clients and prospects and their markets
- Provide business and market intelligence for client and business development, business planning and strategic firm initiatives
- Work in a team environment and prioritize work according to the team’s workload and priorities
- Provide client-focused services
Additional Responsibilities:
- Train, coach, mentor other CI analysts to help them improve their research and analytical skills continuously
- Keep abreast of current events in the legal and competitive fields; attend appropriate workshops and events within the team’s budget
- Complete other special projects as requested by management
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an area that emphasizes quantitative and qualitative analysis, with 5 years law firm or other professional services firm experience; graduate degree preferred
- Proven analytical abilities to review quantitative and qualitative information and evaluate its accuracy, reliability, completeness, and relevance to the assignment; to identify patterns; and to present the information in concise and compelling ways
- Ability to synthesize relevant information needed for high-level and business development decision-making.
- Experience researching across a broad range of industries and international entities, including energy, financial services, intellectual property, investment management, private equity, technology, securities, and consumer products.
- Experience creating professional reports using Excel, PowerPoint and Word and publishing content to intranets using portals such as SharePoint
- Good awareness of economic and international affairs
- High personal standard of ethical conduct and ability to securely handle confidential and proprietary information relating to the Firm and its clients is required
- High standard of work ethics
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a team environment, manage multiple tasks effectively, and complete detailed work accurately and with minimal supervision
- Strong analytical, problem solving, time management, prioritization, multitasking, and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral; ability to effectively present findings one-on-one and to groups.
- Work well under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and show attention to detail
- Ability to apply judgment
- Excellent written and spoken English language skills
- Knowledge of another language a plus
