Conflicts Manager

Summary

The Finance Department has an immediate opening for a Conflicts Manager in either our Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Providence, or Hartford office. This person will be mostly remote with occasional days in the office or travel to other offices. We are looking for a detail oriented professional with conflicts and intake experience to lead a team of junior and senior conflicts analysts in clearing conflicts for all firm new clients and matters. The position will report to the Director of Intake & Conflicts. A JD and previous conflicts attorney experience is highly preferred. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead team of conflicts analysts in all aspects of clearing conflicts, from initial identification, vetting and researching the issue, to helping to determine if waivers are needed;
  • Monitor intake queues and mailboxes, dividing responsibility and assigning ownership, ensuring that firm deadlines are met across the team, juggling different time zones, helping team in handling high priority projects, assisting in conflicts clearance where needed;
  • Understand, opine on, and be prepared to discuss complex conflicts issues and train team on all aspects of ethical conflicts using multi-jurisdictional analysis in certain cases;
  • Review existing policies and procedures, engage in continuous improvement of processes, and institute quality control measures to ensure adherence to procedures;
  • Manage team of conflicts professionals in all aspects of conflicts clearance, including guidance on how to liaise with attorneys and staff, conveying proper tone and instruction in emails;
  • Oversee the opening of new clients and matters in Intapp and Aderant software, understand the workflow and how the software works, provide technical guidance;
  • Work with Conflicts Attorneys, Intake Team, and Director to ensure all aspects of the database match the corresponding conflicts requests and related discussions;
  • Ensure compliance with risk management policies and procedures;
  • Assist in reviewing engagement letters, Outside Counsel Guidelines, and related client engagement terms;
  • Provide expertise to firm attorneys and management in the conflict check process;
  • Other related tasks as so required. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-6 years of legal intake and conflicts experience required.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, legal accounting/billing systems, familiarity with web based research for conflict checking purposes, knowledge of databases and accurate typing skills.
  • Knowledge of the ethical rules of professional conduct as they relate to conflicts of interest.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, ability to prioritize assignments and move quickly from one task to another.
  • Ability to work extended hours on a short-term and limited basis to accommodate short-term activity spikes and urgent requests.
  • Managerial/Supervisory experience required.
  • Team player.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, JD with conflicts attorney experience highly preferred.
