Reports To: Chief Operation Officer/Chief Financial Officer 

Summary

Working alongside the COO/CFO, the Controller will drive and direct Firm’s financial operations. Working closely with the Assistant Controller, Accounts Manager (UK) and Sr. Tax Analyst, the Controller will have overall responsibility for the accounting, finance, and tax processes for Firm’s U.S. and international offices. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting and finance processes for the Firm’s U.S. and international offices.
  • Monitor the financial performance of the Firm.
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, implementing, monitoring and enforcing operating procedures.
  • Review periodic and year end general ledger reconciliations.
  • Schedule any information requested by the Firm’s external auditor for the annual audit and tax return preparation.
  • Work alongside the Senior Tax Analyst to ensure accurate and timely delivery of tax information to the Firm and its attorneys, coordinate year-end tax audit.
  • Oversee bookkeeping and monthly reporting for one additional nonprofit entity.
  • Review and assist in the compilation of monthly reports including all financial statements and covenant calculations as required by the firm’s financial institution.
  • Maintain schedule of furniture and equipment to be leased and coordination with the leasing company to initiate payments to vendors.
  • Administer the Firm’s capital contribution program, including the creation of partner compensation, contribution and loan schedules and the coordination of all related financial transactions.
  • Participate in compiling data necessary for the firm’s annual budget, compensation reviews and statistical surveys.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance.
  • CPA license or MBA preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial statements, cash basis and accrual
  • Proficiency with financial and management reporting
  • Law firm (preferred) or other professional services firm experience
  • 10+ years public accounting experience
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks, FRx, SQL, Crystal Reports, Aderant
  • Experience working in an international organization required with experience in international tax; must be able to interact in a multicurrency environment.
  • Detail and service oriented.
  • A self-starter and team player with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
