The Business Development (“BD”) Manager is responsible for supporting the market’s growth strategy and commitment to client service. The successful candidate will demonstrate a knowledge of the market and competitive landscape, and utilize their business development and marketing expertise, along with knowledge of professional services, to deploy the full range of services required to support the market’s business development and marketing goals. Reporting to the Business Development Senior Advisor, the Manager will work in close collaboration with colleagues across Firm’s department’s and strategic growth industries to execute on the following responsibilities:

Practice, Market and Client Development

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the lawyers and clients in the Bay Area in order to drive strategic priorities, including client engagement and relationship building
  • Provide research, analysis, and reporting to support the identification and development of new clients and the enhancement of existing client relationships.
  • Play an active role in the integration of lateral partners and the development of junior partners
  • Leverage and promote the Firm’s alumni network to drive revenue
  • Develop and drive strategies and programming for the Firm’s Women Enriching Business program

Strategic Planning

  • Support the implementation of business development tactics and initiatives in alignment with the strategic objectives of practices, markets, relevant industry sectors, and/or clients as assigned.
  • Aid in the execution of cross-selling strategies, including collaborating with relevant BD teams.
  • Coordinate the research of markets, competition, and client targets conflicts for the department and practice groups to drive strategy.

Marketing Communications and Client Programs

  • Collaborate with lawyers and BD and Brand & Communications teams on speaking opportunities, seminars and sponsorships, webinars and other visibility initiatives.
  • Develop internal communications to inform relevant practice and industry groups of significant achievements, developments, and market synergies.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of written marketing materials and web site content, including practice profiles and relevant experience lists.
  • Project manage and draft submissions for legal directories and related industry guides.

The BD Manager will have excellent leadership skills (i.e. planning, problem solving, and decision making) necessary for effective management and have superior written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate will be a high-performing team player, fluent in a matrix environment with a strong ability to positively and proactively influence others, including multiple stakeholders. They will have knowledge of fundamental business development and sales principles in professional services or similar environments, including client targeting and client account management. The candidate will have well-developed and professional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the Firm.

A Bachelor’s degree as well as a minimum of seven (7) years of business development experience is desired. Previous legal industry experience is preferred.
