Marketing Manager, Alumni Relations

Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Marketing Officer, the Marketing Manager, Alumni Relations, is responsible for all aspects of developing an engaged alumni network and supporting the firm’s alumni relations/alumni program.

The Marketing Manager works collaboratively with key stakeholders across the firm, including colleagues in marketing and business development, event marketing, human resources, professional development and other support functions as needed to build and leverage the firm’s alumni resources.

The Marketing Manager will report to the Director of Business Development. The position may include travel to the firm’s other offices, as needed, to meet with partners and other internal clients. 

Key Responsibilities

Alumni Program Execution

  • Manage the alumni list to ensure that information is updated regularly and significant changes are communicated appropriately
  • Identify and execute alumni focused activities (e.g., networking events, referral networks) that will support the business development goals and objectives specified by the firm; efforts should align with the goals outlined in the firm’s strategic plan
  • Plan and execute events, which will include regional and office-specific alumni-only events that are strategic in nature and result in unique alumni outreach and experiences
  • Ensure that alumni are included in firm seminars and other networking events/receptions and part of our business development efforts
  • Advance career placement services and a referral network
  • Work closely with legal recruiting team to identify opportunities for alumni and associates that will ensure a continuous relationship and enhance our client opportunities
  • Identify alumni opportunities and ensure that we leverage alumni relationships

Communication

  • In coordination with the communications team, build an external communications plan and develop targeted content to drive engagement and strengthen relationships with the firm. To include the firm’s robust website presence, alumni-focused newsletters, thought leadership pieces, speaking opportunities, and social media outreach.
  • Internal marketing to include developing a value proposition and materials that clearly articulate the value, benefits and goals and maintaining alumni contact database

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively on an individual basis and in small and large groups
  • Consistently demonstrates strong business acumen and judgment
  • Strong team player with the ability to work effectively with lawyers and staff at all levels
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • MBA or related graduate degree a plus
  • Firsthand experience in developing a loyal and active alumni network and experience supporting an alumni relations/alumni program in a legal or professional services environment strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience writing, editing, researching in the marketing function in a legal or professional services environment

Physical Activity/Other Miscellaneous

  • Ability to work outside business hours as needed e.g. to work events
  • Ability to travel locally, domestically and possibly internationally, on occasion
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds
  • Ability to periodically travel to other offices
