Summary
The Senior Career Development Manager will report to the firm’s Director of Career Development and be part of the Professional Development & Training Department. The Senior Career Development Manager will primarily focus on developing and assisting in the execution of career development initiatives, including coaching and programming initiatives.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Career Development, the Senior Career Development Manager will:
- Develop and implement new career development initiatives across department and offices.
- Counsel individual attorneys on career development goals.
- Assist with building the firm’s coaching roster, including:
- Interviewing and engaging new external coaches.
- Managing individual coaching engagements with external coaches.
- Assist with lateral associate integration and development.
- Develop and maintain firm-wide conferences, including:
- New Associate Orientation, Midlevel Associate Conference, Senior Associate Conference and New Partner Orientation.
- Career development panels with external coaches, clients and alumni
- Business Development series targeting all levels of seniority
- Collaborate with various departments throughout the firm, including:
- PD&T team members to develop programs and workshops.
- Inclusion, Legal Personnel and Alumni Relations to develop and assist mentorship initiatives.
- Legal Personnel and Pro Bono to encourage opportunities, track experiences and develop programming.
- IT, graphic design and audio/visual professionals to deliver programming that is engaging and efficient to onsite and remote employees.
- Events department to manage professionals to ensure flawless program execution.
- Develop and maintain technology and procedures, including:
- Update and maintain career development forms and marketing materials.
- Assist in maintaining internal training database to optimize user experience.
- Track all coaching engagements including internal team’s coaching engagements
- Initiate or assist in adoption of new technology initiatives in support of other duties.
Required Skills
- J.D. degree, with 3-5+ years of legal practice experience, preferably in a large law firm.
- 2+ years of professional development, career counseling or legal personnel experience.
- Coaching experience a plus.
- Familiar with and conversant in associate growth and development issues in law practice.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff throughout the firm on program development and delivery.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, including strong attention to detail in all written work.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as collaborate with others and work well in a team.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with an intense client service orientation.
