Managing Clerk

Essential Functions
- Advise attorneys on procedural matters and discuss strategy;
- Delegate work assignments to court clerks, set goals for staff, be able to appraise performances;
- Provide data entry into the firm’s docket calendar system, including computation of due
- dates;
- Alert attorneys of incoming court papers, notices and impending deadlines;
- Advise attorneys of newly instituted procedures;
- Research cases by various methods including Pacer, Westlaw, Internet, newspapers and publications, etc.;
- Perform electronic filing;
- Draft various legal documents such as notices of entry, stipulations, notices of appearance and affidavits of service;
- Accompany attorneys to court for filings and special proceeding;
- Monitor cases in federal and state courts, and governmental and administrative agencies;
- Other duties as assigned at the discretion of the Managing Partner.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate department;
- Must work well in group problem solving situations;
- Exhibit sound and accurate judgement;
- Must provide and welcome detailed feedback;
- Must demonstrate professional written and verbal communication skills;
- Must be willing to undertake training and development to keep abreast of industry standards.
Competencies
- Proficiency working with of CompuLaw, PACER, CourtAlert, Courtlink and the NYS Unified Court System;
- Solid working knowledge Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and the NY Civil
- Practice Law & Rules (CPLR)., local court rules and actions;
- Thorough understanding of electronic case filing in Federal, State and Bankruptcy courts;
- Possess a Notary Public license.
Education and Experience
- 5 plus years of experience in Managing Clerk’s office required;
- College degree preferred.
