Summary
Premier, forward thinking, global, law firm has an opening in their New York office for a Business Development Manager, Clients & Industries (Life Sciences & Healthcare). The Business Development Manager, Clients & Industries supports the overall business development and marketing efforts of the firm by providing dedicated business development and marketing support for the development of priority client relationships and new business opportunities in key firm industries, with a focus on the Life Sciences & Healthcare industry.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Support and enhance the firm’s key industry initiatives, focusing on priority industry clients, market trend analysis, and opportunity pursuit with a focus on the Life Sciences & Healthcare industry;
- Develop and execute industry business development and marketing plan and strategy with key metrics including goals, action items, and deadlines. Advise and collaborate with partner leaders, Global Business Development team, and other internal stakeholders in the development and execution of industry business development plan;
- Strategize and interface with internal stakeholders on proposed industry marketing initiatives and client development projects;
- Research, analyze, and report on high level trends and developments impacting industry and identify new business opportunities, as well as customized thought leadership responses;
- Lead and facilitate client relationship management including understanding of priority clients current work, key contacts, and practice offerings and advise internal stakeholders on relationship building strategies;
- Monitor priority clients business, movement within clients organization, and other developments and identify cross-selling opportunities to expand client relationships;
- Prepare relationship partners for client meetings and industry programs by providing talking points, tailoring materials, and refining research;
- Identify and facilitate client partnership opportunities including CSR, diversity, and thought leadership programs and other industry-driven events;
- Organize, coordinate, and oversee events, client trainings, conferences, and other targeted marketing activities;
- Document industry specific experience and credentials and ensure content is kept current;
- Develop, edit and disseminate materials, including pitches/proposals, and RFP responses;
- Collaborate with Global Business Development team members across the Americas, Asia, and Europe on cross-practice integrated client outreach and marketing campaigns;
- Liaise with various firm departments including Finance, Practice Innovation, and Talent to carry out firm wide initiatives;
- Manage relevant business development industry budgets;
- Serve as a mentor to other Business Development team members with focus on client development and industry goals as well as professional development opportunities;
- Provide a high level of client service excellence to lawyers, professional services teams, and clients;
- Participate in Bdev departmental cross-training and strategic initiatives;
- Work additional hours and travel as required; and
- Act as a lead on additional related projects within the BDev Department or firm as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree;
- 7+ years of marketing experience;
- At least 3 years of management experience in a professional services or legal environment (preferred);
- Experience in Life Sciences & Healthcare industry a plus;
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including MS Project and document management systems;
- Fundamental knowledge of CRM systems (e.g., InterAction);
- Excellent proficiency in online research and internet resources (Lexis-Nexis and equivalent);
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, procedures, concepts and practical applications;
- Advanced knowledge of the needs and expectations of law firm operations and corporate legal clients in order to function at a strategic level;
- Knowledge of technologies, developments, trends and literature related to legal and professional services marketing fields;
- Advanced knowledge of networking and relationship management;
- Proficiency in team building and leadership skills; and
- Fundamental knowledge of legal concepts.
