Director of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity (“EID”)

Job Summary

The Director of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity (“EID”) will develop and implement a world class diversity and inclusion strategy to attract, retain, and advance diverse talent. The Director has overall responsibility for firm-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives. Such strategies and programs will be designed to improve diversity of cultural background among firm lawyers, paralegals, and staff, and achieve equal opportunity for women, racial and ethnic minorities, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities. The Director will also work to develop, implement, and monitor programs and processes that promote and sustain diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect throughout the firm. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with firm leadership to set the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy and to educate functional areas of the firm about that strategy.
  • Develop and implement programs designed to foster inclusivity and promote the hiring, retention, development and advancement of diverse talent.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership of the Women’s Initiative and the Diversity Committee to develop and implement strategic initiatives to support an inclusive culture and diverse talent.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Talent Officer and Diversity Partner to develop and implement annual strategic plans, manage annual budgets, and provide updates to management.
  • Provide or arrange for core diversity training programs and workshops.
  • Work collaboratively with the firm’s Professional Development team to better support and develop diverse talent.
  • Work collaboratively with the firm’s Recruiting team to identify and implement strategic opportunities to develop our diversity pipeline.
  • Work collaboratively with the firm’s Marketing team to build the firm’s reputation as a leader in diversity and inclusion, including by developing diversity and inclusion content for the firm’s website, intranet, and library of marketing collateral.
  • Develop and analyze metrics for measuring progress and effectiveness of the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy. 

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, strategic and innovative thinking, an ability to persuade and influence, possessing professional presence and the ability to build enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating and maintaining project plans, status reports, budgets, communication and change management plans.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing diversity and inclusion strategies and programs.
  • Strong organization skills, including setting priorities, planning, structuring project deliverables and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, including effective listening, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and ability to make effective, timely decisions.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects. 

Education and Relevant Experience

  • Graduate degree in related area (e.g., JD, MBA, HR, Education, Counseling, and Organizational Development). JD preferred, but not required.
  • Director level: minimum of 8-10 years in a large law firm and/or professional development experience in a leading professional services firm required, and minimum of 4 years of diversity and inclusion work.
