Job Description
The Senior Specialist, Retirement & Benefits, is the subject matter expert for the firm’s 401(k) and Staff Defined Benefit Plan. Responsible for the administration of existing, new and modified programs in accordance with the Firm’s benefit strategies and government regulations.
Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions
- Subject matter expert regarding qualified and non-qualified retirement plans (pension, 401(k) and deferred compensation). Includes general plan administration, reporting, managing of regulatory compliance notices, audits and government filings.
- Key contact for the retirement plan 401(k) vendor, pension plan actuary, trustee, outside auditors, financial consultants and internal business partners (i.e. Payroll and Finance).
- Counsel, educate, and assist employees and benefits team on retirement plan policies, processes and protocols.
- Manage, prepare, review and validate pension plan estimates and commencement calculations.
- Manage and prepare annual profit sharing plan contribution schedules, annual pension valuation reports and compliance mailings.
- Participate in departmental projects (i.e. annual open enrollment, partner annual benefits statements, etc.).
- Any additional responsibilities as required by management.
Knowledge, Skills & Ability
- 5+ years of direct experience managing the administration of benefit plans including 401(k), pension, and health & welfare, with a large, multi-location employer.
- Ability to interpret plan documents and communicate retirement and health and welfare plan provisions effectively (e.g. new hire orientations, issue resolutions, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of DOL, ERISA and IRS regulations.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and high quality service.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision or direction in a fast paced environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills: listening, writing, speaking with all levels within the firm.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft office (Word and Excel in particular) required.
- Strong experience with HRIS platform required, Workday preferred.
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience required.
