Patent Paralegal

Summary
The Patent Paralegal is responsible for timely, independent management of complex intellectual property administrative and legal support tasks. The position requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and prioritization skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a high level of analytical thinking and problem solving skills. The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is a must.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and file supporting documents for attorneys, including but not limited to, the following:
- Information Disclosure Statements
- Office Actions from U.S. and foreign patent offices for cited references
- US and PCT application filing papers, including Declarations, Assignments, 3.73 Statements, and
- Powers of Attorney
- PCT follow on papers, including Responses to Invitations, PCT Powers of Attorney, Notification of
- Recording of Change, and other related PCT communications via US Receiving Office and IB ePCT
- US prosecution/follow on papers, including Responses to Missing Parts/Corrected Papers,
- Responses to Office Actions, Petitions, Assignment recordations, Issue Fee and related/other
- USPTO forms
- Maintain citations database using IPDAS Citation Manager
- Maintain docket and send out reminders to client for upcoming due dates
- Maintain a manual docket
- repare client status reports using CPI database
- Assist in due diligence searches and additional patent prosecution related projects when necessary
- Provide additional assistance to Docket Administrator, IP LEAs, and attorneys when necessary
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years patent paralegal experience required, preferably in a mid to large sized
- law firm
- Knowledge of procedural requirements for filing US and PCT patent applications with the USPTO and the
- World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO)
- Hands-on electronic filing experience at the USPTO (EFS-Web) and International Bureau (ePCT) required
- Knowledge of direct foreign filing and US and foreign national phase entry procedural requirements
- Knowledge of IPDAS, IPDAS Citation Manager, and CPI databases preferred
- IP Docket Experience a plus
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Superior technical skills in Microsoft Office Suite 2010 applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Excellent proofreading skills
