Staff Accountant

Reports To: Controller and Senior Accounting Manager
A prestigious midtown law firm seeks a professional, proactive individual with experience in a law firm setting. The qualified candidate will perform a variety of accounting tasks in an accounting department including, but not limited to:
General Ledger/Accounting
- Prepare and enter journal entries
- Account analysis-various
- Prepare wire/ACH payments out (vendors and former partners)
- Assist with bank reconciliations and clearing checks in Elite
- Assist with month and year end Elite close
- Elite system problem solving: G/L, Billing setups, etc.
- Coordinate return of retainers with Billing & A/P
- Special projects as needed
Escrow Accounting
- Set up wires-online banking
- Record escrow transactions in Elite
- Open/Close interest bearing sub accounts
Cash Receipts
- Record deposits (post cash receipts in Elite) and investigate when needed
- Review bank activity for wires/ACH’s (online)
- Scan check copies to bank for deposit
- Client Payment via credit card transactions
- Online banking
Abilities and Skills Needed
- Bachelor’s degree is required
- Minimum of 3 years of law firm experience
- Knowledge of Elite 3.9 and higher is preferred / Elite 3E preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel & Word
- Strong communication, problem solving and analytical skills required
- Ability to work independently and to adapt to a fast changing environment
- Must have attention to detail with an eye for accuracy.
- Creative, self-disciplined and capable of completing tasks independently
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and track extensive detail
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with personnel
- Must be flexible with overtime
- Willingness to work with and assist other staff members in accomplishing work assignments
- Pleasant and cooperative attitude
- Must be able to handle confidential information sensitively and discreetly
