Summary
Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager and PR Manager, the Communications/Public Relations Coordinator supports the Marketing and Business Development team by developing, editing and repurposing content for distribution across Firm’s PR, social media, website, marketing and internal messaging platforms.
Responsibilities
- Write and edit content and ensure that all published copy adheres to firm style guidelines.
- Support the PR/Communications and Business Development teams by researching, drafting and contributing to press releases and other announcements, distributing and publishing this news as needed.
- Implement various public relations/communications initiatives designed to build the firm’s brand in key practice areas and markets across global offices.
- Support daily public relations functions and maintain the press office infrastructure including media relations and supporting broader public relations campaigns.
- Help to manage flow of social media postings across four platforms, working in connection with PR/Communications and BD/Marketing as well as the firm’s external PR/strategy advisors.
- Support the Communications function by serving as in-house reporter on firm internal events.
- Maintain the team’s PR and editorial calendars.
- Participate in the ongoing development and maintenance of systems and processes for the public relations program – including maintaining press lists, disseminating coverage, and tracking press office activity and researching emerging trends.
- Identify opportunities for placing attorney-authored articles, drafting media pitches, and other coverage.
- Stay abreast of market intelligence and industry trends in order to make recommendations for the advancement of the firm’s public relations initiatives and campaigns.
- Work with attorneys and PR Manager to develop media pitches and prepare attorneys in advance of interviews; proactively seek media opportunities for profiling the firm and attorneys.
- Support the Senior Communications Manager and PR Manager in responding to survey and award submissions and facilitating interviews.
- Work closely with Business Development Managers to leverage events programs as part of public relations and communications outreach.
- Work with the PR Manager to supervise firm contacts with external media.
- Support the team on other special projects as needed.
- Other responsibilities as they are assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Four-year college degree (BA or BS), preferably in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, preferably in a professional services, legal, corporate or similar environment required or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Experience with PR and/or in a Communications role desired.
- The Communications/PR Coordinator must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to write professionally and utilize communication skills to enhance the firm’s reputation and brand.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and have an understanding of social media platforms.
- Possess exceptional writing skills, with a keen understanding of how to adapt tone and voice for target audiences.
- Understand style guidelines and know how to copyedit and proofread their own and others’ work with strong attention to detail.
- Be a flexible team player with a can-do approach, ability and willingness to learn new skills, and ability to juggle multiple projects.
- Have strong oral communication skills with the ability to interact with lawyers and other busy professionals effectively.
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to manage projects to completion.
- Have good judgment and be able to learn how to access resources and subject matter experts throughout the firm’s global offices and departments.
- Be able to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
- Be flexible and available to work overtime as needed.
