Research & Information Services Technical Services Assistant

Summary

This position is responsible for the day to day processing, routing, and distribution of research materials. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives new periodical and newspaper issues (online and print), checks them into the ILS (integrated library system) and prepares and sends for routing.
  • Orders, materials, receives new items and checks them into the ILS
  • Orders, labels and distributes deskbooks
  • Deals with vendors to resolve missing issues, subscription, and billing problems
  • Creates and maintains distribution lists for routing purposes, electronically and print
  • Creates catalog records for new periodicals
  • Maintains periodicals database in the firm’s document management system
  • Maintains news server watches, adds and deletes users
  • Monitors and posts stories about the firm to the intranet homepage
  • Assists with filing pocket parts

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Experience with legal materials and using an automated technical services system. Experience with SirsiDynix Horizon a plus
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Acrobat
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a highly pressured environment
  • Ability to multi-task and to complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Detail oriented

Education and Experience

  • High school graduate; college or some college preferred 

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like
