Assistant Manager-Professional Development

Summary

Work with the Director of Attorney Development & Training and professional development/talent team to provide high level of service for all professional development functions, including training programs, CLE administration, professional development committee meetings, new associate orientation, special projects and other professional development programs.

Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions

  • Manage developing departmental training programs, boot camps, seminars and workshops
  • Manage client CLE programs
  • Plan and execute the Firm’s attorney mentoring program
  • Understand and maintain expertise in NY CLE Rules, Regulations and Guidelines and related NY CLE Board Announcements. Coordinate with Professional Development Coordinator to communicate any changes in rules, etc. to all attorneys.
  • Attend professional development committee meetings and seek opportunities to further the goals and projects identified.
  • Take a lead role in planning/conducting associate focus groups, with the goal of applying feedback to PD
  • Identify and implement new training opportunities.  Keep apprised of industry developments. Identify relevant PD applications from other industries.
  • Serve as core member of New Associate Orientation planning and execution team.
  • Provide supervision to Coordinator in monitoring CLE compliance for New York admitted attorneys Firm-wide;  use/maintain CLE tracking databases; provide individual attorney follow-up; assist attorneys in developing plans for compliance.
  • Manage CLE matters as needed in other jurisdictions.
  • Manage in-house training programs. Work with team to update/maintain PD calendar; help craft internal professional development website weekly emails, and communicate with all offices about set-up requirements, etc.
  • Work closely with Director to identify needs and goals to provide top professional development support to the firm’s attorneys.
  • Special projects as needed.
  • Any additional responsibilities as required by management. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 7+ years of experience supporting, managing and assisting with professional development programs for lawyers, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
  • A demonstrated ability and strong desire to work as part of a team in a demanding, client-centered legal services environment. 

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelors’ degree required.
  • JD with practice experience is a plus.
