Marketing Communications Specialist

Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Summary
The Marketing Communications Specialist will report to the Director of Marketing Communications and serve as a key firm resource for writing, editing, proofreading, and managing the editorial workflow of firm content.

Responsibilities
• Drafting firm news announcements (including press releases), media mentions, some social media (as needed), ads, invitations (as needed), certain write-ups for internal communications, attorney bios, certain communications for other firm departments (e.g., Human Resources), and other material as needed.
• Review, edit, copy edit, and proofread (where needed) written material prepared by outside vendors (e.g., PR firm, freelance writers), attorney articles, client alerts, social media posts, and other material.
• Consult with attorneys and professional staff on communications projects requiring editorial support.
Requirements
• Minimum of 5 years’ directly relevant experience with writing, editing, copy editing, and proofreading legal and/or other similar business content.
• Experience with law firms, especially in a marketing communications, journalism, or public relations role.
• Journalistic, concise, seasoned writing style.
• Ability to pivot to and produce advertising/promotional copywriting.
• Experience with or solid understanding of graphic design, including typography.
• Ability to work with a range of communication channels and tools that include marketing collateral, website, social media, and PR/media placements.
• Facility for writing quality material under tight time pressure and with high volume of assignments and simultaneous, competing demands.
• Demonstrated drive, dedication, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
• Willingness to take a writing test and a copy editing test (including proofreading).
• Familiarity with AP style.

Ideal Candidate
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, marketing, journalism, communications, or related field.
• A J.D. or familiarity with the law.
• Journalism and media experience highly preferred.
• Client service orientation.
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop excellent relationships with colleagues and internal clients.
