Conflicts Attorney

Reports to: Conflicts Manager
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze conflicts of interest reports with respect to clients, matters and incoming lawyers.
- Facilitate resolution of potential conflicts problems for incoming new-hire lawyers, paralegals and other staff.
- Advise as to necessary waivers, and, upon request, assist in drafting waivers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to communicate New Business Intake process to all levels of attorneys and staff and to prepare New Business Intake documentation/work product.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, ability to perform database searches. Elite, Legal Key or other similar application, a plus.
- Perform day to day activities with respect to identifying and conducting Conflicts searches and/ or clearing previously identified conflicts.
- Perform database and internet searches to identify potential conflicts between current clients and pending clients.
- Compile synopsis for Conflicts Resolution group to begin clearing process.
- Communicate with attorneys, secretaries, Accounting Department, New Business Intake staff, regarding potential conflict issues (answer questions, obtain additional information/clarification), responding to inquiries regarding the New Business Intake process, and opening and closing new matters.
- Draft conflict of interest waiver letters and consent letters for attorneys.
- Draft screening procedures in accordance with requirements of specific clients and/or attorneys.
- Update and maintain records.
- Contact attorney(s) to follow up on outstanding waiver letters.
- Assist in special projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Position will be supervised by the firm’s Conflicts Manager.
Experience & Qualifications
- Ideal candidate should have a JD and at least 2 years of legal experience.
- Experience with conflicts analysis preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Ability to work productively with firm personnel at all levels.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills required.
