Professional Development Analyst, Assignments (Resource Management)

Summary

The primary objective of the Professional Development Analyst, Assignments is to support the Professional Development Manager, Assignments with associate staffing, planning and resource management.  The role will interact with the Transactional (Banking & Finance, Corporate and Capital Markets) and Litigation practices. This position will work closely with the Manager to optimize the allocation of work and ensure efficient and appropriate staffing of client matters, business development projects and pro bono initiatives while also supporting associate development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the staffing of time sensitive attorney & law clerk assignments
  • Meet with associates to discuss their schedule, utilization and area(s) of interest
  • Communicate with partners and senior associates regarding staffing needs and ask appropriate questions to identify effective solutions
  • Staff matters according to associate interests/availability
  • Assist partners/counsels/senior associates with all staffing requests
  • Serve as primary back-up to Manager, providing coverage as needed
  • Monitor and track associate availability
  • Review reports generated from the staffing database
  • Track associate billable and non-billable hours
  • Become familiar with attorney practice areas and keep abreast of changes
  • Liaise with Practice Area Leaders regarding utilization and availability
  • Identify associates interested in client or Firm secondments, assist with secondment arrangements
  • Document associate performance feedback as needed
  • Work on various assignments/projects/initiatives as needed 

Requirements/Preferences 

  • Minimum of high School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of four years’ experience working at a law firm or other professional services firm; staffing experience required.  Professional Development or Human Resources experience a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines
  • Strategic thinker with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high pressure environment
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to make effective decisions using sound judgment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain strong internal working relationships with all levels in the organization
  • Excellent organizational and client service skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (highly proficient in Excel)
  • As this is an attorney-facing role, telecommuting is not an option
  • Must be independently legally authorized to work in the United States
