Case Manager

The Case Manager will serve as liaison between the legal assistants, paralegals, and attorneys on their team to facilitate a two-way flow of communication regarding tasks, assignments, and the status of projects.  The Case Manager will also assist Litigation attorneys in all phases of the litigation process, from the discovery period through trial and on to post-trial findings and appeals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinating workflow for one Partner team, often serving in the role of team leader;
  • Using both skills and experience to manage team matters and effectively deploy Firm standard processes and procedures;
  • Mentoring new legal assistants and paralegals in developing skills and knowledge required to perform their jobs and maintain standardized team procedures;
  • Meeting regularly with managers to discuss staffing and resource needs in order to meet deadlines;
  • Reviewing and analyzing documents for production, categorizing documents by subject, preparing chronologies of facts, and reviewing transcripts during the discovery phase;
  • Prioritizing and delegating assignments among multiple team members;
  • Working closely with the attorney team and Technical Litigation Support in managing and tracking complex document productions;
  • Possessing an advanced understanding of the discovery applications used to effectively support our litigation teams;
  • Managing the processes related to document organization and production;
  • Preparing for and attending depositions, hearings and trials by organizing and filing exhibits and all other supporting documents, making arrangements for transporting and setting up case materials at location;
  • Working with multiple stakeholders to assure that all logistical and case management needs are met at trial;
  • Preparing motions by pulling relevant documents, proofreading, putting together exhibits and indexes documents for table of contents;
  • Assisting with cite checking;
  • Conducting various document searches and factual research, including searches on computerized system when applicable;
  • Assisting managers with interviewing legal assistant and paralegal candidates;
  • Assisting with mentoring and training Litigation Legal Assistants and Litigation Paralegals and responsible for reviewing their work product; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with high academic standing required;
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Litigation Paralegal;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills;
  • Advanced knowledge of technology and database applications;
  • Must be able to work overtime evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary;
  • Must be able to travel for extended periods, sometimes on short notice as necessary;
  • Must be detail oriented;
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and coordinate several activities at one time;
  • Able to take and follow instructions as well as delegate tasks to others; and
  • Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.
