Paralegal (Bankruptcy/Restructuring)

A leading international law firm that provides innovative legal solutions to many of the world’s top financial institutions and Fortune Global 500 companies with offices across the U.S. and the world, have an opening for a Paralegal (Bankruptcy/Restructuring) in their New York office.

The Paralegal applies advanced Corporate knowledge of law and legal procedures to provide high-level assistance to lawyers. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform work in an efficient and cost-effective manner so as to permit the Firm to reasonably collect fees for such work; Meet expectations of billable hours target of 1,725 (unless otherwise specified);
  • Under the supervision of an attorney, coordinate, organize, prepare and interpret complex legal documents; Build and maintain relevant databases and files; File and provide copies to relevant parties;
  • Perform factual research in internal and external databases and libraries;
  • Assist with legal business transactions and logistics including local/remote set-up and travel arrangements;
  • Partner and coordinate with internal resources and outside vendor services; Direct work and train team members;
  • Work overtime as required; Travel as required; and
  • Handle additional related projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • General Chapter 11 case administration;
  • Commencement of and administration of adversary proceedings and appeals;
  • Administration of cases representing Office Committee of Unsecured Creditors, Lenders, and other parties;
  • Prepare and file proof of claims;
  • Order and organize lien searches and certificate of good standings;
  • Proficiency with cite checking and blue book;
  • Review dockets and maintain case calendar, as well as prepare for hearings;
  • Handle calls from creditors and interested parties;
  • Review and research Bankruptcy Code and local rules;
  • Expert proficiency in supporting legal business transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, securities, financing or tax activities;
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Outlook and web-based conference call/web-sharing applications;
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word and document editing/comparison applications;
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and spreadsheet/database applications;
  • Advanced proficiency in MS PowerPoint and presentation applications;
  • Advanced proficiency in online research and internet search resources (Lexis Nexis/Westlaw);
  • Expert knowledge of Firm and Corporate practice-area-specific procedures and terminology;
  • Expert knowledge of relevant jurisdictional/court/agency processes and procedures;
  • Advanced knowledge of timekeeping and expense;
  • At least 5 years of Paralegal experience;
  • At least 5 years of relevant Corporate experience; and
  • ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate; Bachelor’s Degree.
