Job Description

The Business Development Analyst for Litigation provides critical, all-encompassing support for the nationwide Litigation BD team, which covers all of the Firm’s nine primary Litigation practice areas and the 350-attorney Litigation Department as a whole, across a number of U.S. offices. Primarily, the Analyst will work with the Associate Director, Specialists, and other team members on the execution of short-term business development- and marketing-related responsibilities, with the unifying goals of generating new business opportunities while providing top-notch client service to the Litigation Department. These responsibilities include: 1) working with attorneys to draft and revise their Firm biographies and other outward-facing marketing collateral; 2) helping the Litigation BD team generate leads and supporting longer-term Departmental strategic projects by managing the daily Docket/Complaint monitoring system, stock-drop assessment, and other similar types of programs, analyzing extant and prospective clients and relevant industry or geographic segments, and performing expedited ad-hoc research on potential opportunities; 3) assisting with drafting of pitch materials and RFP responses and monitoring progress of these outreach efforts and evaluating return on investment; 4) working with other Litigation BD team members and attorneys on strategically enhancing the visibility of the Litigation Department and its constituent attorneys, including by helping draft directory submissions (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500) and other award nominations; 5) providing support for and attending client events; and 6) maintaining up-to-date external marketing collateral (biographies, the Firm website, and other internal files) and overseeing the day-to-day upkeep of the team’s Litigation Matters database.

Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions 

  • Work with Associate Director, Litigation BD team, and partners to contribute to development of overall Business Development strategy, processes, and work product in support of the Firm, Litigation practices, and individual attorney initiatives.
  • Working with the Associate Director, manage and improve the daily docket monitoring and stock-drop assessment programs in order to develop actionable short-term leads.
  • Working with attorneys, draft, revise, and refine practice and matter descriptions for use in pitches, on the website, and in attorney biographies, among other collateral materials.
  • Draft and finalize tailored pitch materials, RFP responses, and other client requests or portions thereof, as well as other marketing collateral, such as brochures and event invitations, and log and track related developments and return on investment in internal databases.
  • Oversee day-to-day management of and updates to Litigation Matters experience database.
  • Liaise with BD Team, attorneys, PR/Communications team, Creative team, and CRM team, to prepare newsletters and other communications for distribution to clients and social media channels, and maintain, update and improve client contact and distribution lists.
  • Utilize major external data analysis tools (e.g., CapitalIQ, PACER, Westlaw, LEXIS, Bloomberg Law, etc.) to execute and complete research assignments.
  • Working with BD Team and collaborating with Events team, Creative team, CRM Team, and attorneys, plan and coordinate Firm-sponsored and third-party events, including developing invitations and invitee lists, drafting and producing hard-copy collateral and presentations, working with internal A/V and IT staff to arrange webinar access, and procuring CLE accreditation.
  • Observe confidentiality of all Firm and client matters.
  • Any other responsibilities or special projects as assigned by Associate Director or Management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a major law firm or professional services company; experience supporting litigation practices (e.g., Securities Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Employment Litigation, White Collar/Investigations) is preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, analytical and research skills, with proven ability to synthesize data and accurately present it in a narrative. Writing test required.
  • Experience utilizing legal and other third-party databases (e.g. CapitalIQ, Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, Bloomberg, Monitor Suite, etc.) preferred. Experience using PACER required.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced and high pressure environment; must possess very strong attention to detail and a professional demeanor.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours and on weekends as required.
  • Self-motivated, with excellent time management skills, project management skills and sound judgment required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel in particular) is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a liberal arts or a marketing- or business-related discipline, such as business administration.
