Summary

This position provides first-level support for the Firm’s automated docket and calendar system and procedures for California state and federal cases.  This will include case data entry and daily maintenance of the CA docketing system, and will distribute reports and other alerts and communications to attorneys and paralegals on case teams regarding case schedules. The position also will handle electronic filing in CA and NY as needed.  The position will be based in NY.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • With advice and counsel of firm attorneys in CA, determines docket dates from court documents and correspondence and ensures appropriate entry of data into the docketing system – which is currently Compulaw.
  • Ensures the daily preparation and distribution of reports from the CA docketing system including weekly attorney deadlines reports and other case-specific reports as needed.
  • Provides necessary support and oversight for information workflows related to scheduling and calendaring in litigation matters venued in CA courts.
  • Evaluates processes and recommends improvements to the current systems and procedures related to docketing for CA state and federal cases.
  • Responds to requests related to litigation scheduling, court rules, etc., from attorneys and staff working on CA cases.
  • Provides first-level support for CA state and federal electronic filing.
  • Provides second-level support for NY state and federal electronic filing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Firm management.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of docketing or similar litigation calendar experience at an AMLAW 100 or 200 firm.
  • Working knowledge of applicable California and Federal court rules, including local rules of the various courts in California.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills, and a strong service orientation; excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience with and working knowledge of the CompuLaw docketing system; experience with other docketing systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure and a willingness to work reasonable overtime as needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

Education

  • A degree from an accredited US college or university is preferred, but a combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered in the alternative.
