Job Description
The Business Development (BD) Assistant is an entry level position responsible for providing daily support to the Client and Business Development department and assigned practice groups.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support to the BD Manager on BD and marketing initiatives.
- Business Intelligence Support
- Support ongoing business development and lead generation initiatives.
- Work with the firm’s research team to pull and analyze research on current and prospective clients. Conduct additional research through database searches and other methods, as needed.
- Develop comprehensive prospect fact sheets.
- Pitches/RFPs
- Prepare drafts of pitches and RFPs, including executive summaries detailing the firm’s capabilities.
- Coordinate logistics associated with pitch/RFP production and delivery.
- Business Development and Marketing Activities
- Support the preparation for and execution of regular client events.
- Assist with activities related to client relations or firm promotion, including media relations and other business development tasks.
- Update practice descriptions and maintain client lists.
- Help draft and produce attorney bios, practice profiles and brochures.
- Help draft presentation materials. Document developments after presentations.
- Data Management
- Actively participate in ongoing matter maintenance and tracking in the firm’s tracking system, including matter intake and profiling, monitoring and processing updates, maintain matter lists and populating descriptions from current materials.
- Create and maintain entries in our partner activity tracking system. Monitor the data in the system, and assemble and send out daily updates.
- Maintain process and assist with data and document collection for directories, awards and league table submissions.
- Prepare draft directories, awards and league table submissions.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required. One to two years of law firm, professional services or business experience is required.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and processes and eagerness to help the team.
- Excellent communication skills required (writing and editing skills).
- Understanding of the pressures of working in a corporate environment and demonstrate potential for working well with attorneys who have a wide range of business development goals and marketing skills. Manages stress well.
- Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities to meet time-sensitive deadlines, as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously, including confidential matters.
- Focused on execution and achieving measurable results
- Well organized with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent inter-personal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work confidently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Resourceful, driven attitude with a willingness to use a “whatever it takes” approach to ensure team success.

- Overtime work is often required, including occasional weekends. Quarterly travel to Canada is also required.
