Job Description
A global law firm consistently ranked among the top firms in the world, is currently seeking a Practice Development Manager-Global M&A and Private Equity to join our winning team, located in New York. As a Practice Development Manager-Global M&A and Private Equity at Firm, you will contribute your expertise to managing the client and business development, marketing, and practice administrative activities of one of Firm’s largest practices. You will serve as a global connector of information and implementer of strategic initiatives around the world and within the countries in which we practice M&A and PE.
Your responsibilities as Practice Development Manager-Global M&A and Private Equity will include developing and supporting the global aspects of the strategic plan of the Practice Group Chairs (PGCs) with your direct reports and others in Business Development (BD) around the world supporting M&A and PE. You will coordinate with the Practice Development Senior Manager-Corporate and Director of Business Development-Global Practice Groups to implement global business development goals for the practice while accomplishing these and other critical functions:
- Understanding the clients of the M&A and PE practice with a global view, including knowledge of the deals we are working on, particularly cross-border and high dollar values.
- Managing key client accounts, global and cross-border in nature, of the M&A and PE practice, which involves direct interaction with clients.
- Developing and implementing client development plans for global and cross-border clients and prospects to include client targeting programs, client teams, pursuit teams, and post matter interviews. Connecting attorneys to appropriate opportunities.
- Deploying strategic initiatives for the M&A and PE practice consistently around the world including but not limited to cross-serving, client targeting, branding and development of new partners and associates.
- Supporting partners in the identification of lateral hire needs and subsequently the onboarding and integration process.
- Utilizing market research to have a keen understanding of our competitors and their offerings globally and by country, and developing strategy around branding and marketing plans for positioning Firm among them globally and by market.
- Disseminating global trends as they relate to clients, practice initiatives, fees, competitors, etc. to the wider BD team for incorporation into the local strategy for markets impacted by the M&A and PE practice.
- Strategizing and advising on appropriate content and requisite lawyer team for major, global and/or cross-border client pitches, proposals, and responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Strategizing and advising on clients and prospects to invite to high priority firm-hosted events and seminars.
- Ensuring consistency of marketing materials and branding for M&A and PE globally and by market by managing the suite of marketing materials.
- Deploying, with the Brand & Communications team, branding and communications plans to promote company M&A and PE globally and nationally, including social media
- Educating the BD team regarding global/cross-border M&A and PE practice capabilities and legal updates, as necessary.
- Management of direct reports supporting M&A and PE in the US and oversight of the team supporting M&A and PE outside of the US.
As a Practice Development Manager-Global M&A and Private Equity, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Practice Development Manager-Global M&A and Private Equity must display knowledge of core M&A and PE concepts as well as marketing principals including strategic plan creation and implementation, competitive intelligence, market research, credentials and RFP response preparation internal communications, public relations, seminar/event planning and branding. The Manager will display the strong analytical skills needed for all primary duties of position, including comprehending and communicating data, organization skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines, and well developed and professional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm. The ideal candidate will also possess the ability to proofread and ensure accurate pitches, presentations, database entries and other work products, the ability to perceive and analyze problems, and a capacity to make or recommend sound decisions, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field is required. A JD or MBA is preferred. Five (5) to ten (10) years of marketing or relevant legal experience is desired. Advanced knowledge of PC applications, including the entire suite of MS Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is desired. Travel within the United States and internationally (up to 25%) is required of this position.
The Practice Development Manager-Global M&A and Private Equity will receive a generous total compensation package. Bonuses are awarded in recognition of individual and firm performance.
