Director, Management Reporting & Analysis

Regular Role Summary

The Director, Management Reporting & Analysis is responsible for developing and driving the firmwide financial and management reporting strategy and anticipating and delivering to the reporting and analytics needs of the business. This includes development and timely production of relevant executive level analyses, as well as proactively reviewing and advising business leaders, executive leadership and senior partners in regard to implications of analyses. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring the data and analyses produced by his/her team is accurate, timely, relevant and insightful. The analyses must consider and deal with external factors that impact the business such as global financial/economic trends, government policies and regulations, trends in the legal industry, trends in client demands, etc. An additional responsibility includes oversight of the firm’s cash management function, including borrowing, investing, and banking relations. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the development of unique forward thinking and creative analysis for use by the firm’s executives to evaluate different business models/strategies and their likely impact on profits and results. · Provide responses to extremely complex and focused questions from our partners, executives and other senior business leaders, including financial analysis and results under tight deadlines often with little to no lead time.
  • Direct and provide guidance to professional staff in regard to weekly, monthly and annual reports distributed to all partners.
  • Direct professional staff in planning and producing presentations for firm leadership and senior management.
  • Direct the design, implementation and management of state of the art financial reporting systems/apps that allow partners, executives and others to access financial information, reports and analysis online and on demand to support data-based decision making.
  • In collaboration with the CFO/COO, develop and produce monthly presentations on firm financial results including analysis of relevant business issues for the Executive Group.
  • Meet one-on-one with partners to support them in understanding the financial aspects of their practice and provide them with insights based on analyses.
  • Direct the management of the firm’s investment, borrowing, cash position and banking relations.
  • Approve cash disbursements. Attend and participate in the firm pension committee meetings.
  • Provide active leadership and management of the Management Reporting & Treasury functions and staff including but not limited to staff planning, hiring, coaching, professional development/training, performance management, conflict resolution, discipline, separation, etc.
  • Take an active leadership role in the management of the Financial Services department.
  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
  • Twelve years of experience in leading financial analysis function and team
  • Professional services experience required
  • Law firm experience a plus
  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on accounting experience required

Physical Activity/Other Miscellaneous

  • Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours both remotely and in the office as needed including nights and weekends.
  • Flexibility to respond to emails during evening hours and weekends.
  • Ability to travel to other office locations (occasional).
