The Paralegal II – ERISA assists the departmental attorneys with multiple functions across all areas of employee benefits law while accomplishing these and other critical functions:

  • Drafts and amends tax-qualified retirement plans (including 401(k) plans, ESOPS and defined benefit plans).
  • Reviews and prepares summary plan descriptions for qualified plans.
  • Conducts legal research concerning technical ERISA and tax issues.
  • Prepares and manages submissions to the Internal Revenue Service with regard to plan qualification and compliance program submissions.
  • Assists clients in the administration and compliance of their tax-qualified retirement plans.
  • Reviews form 5500 annual reports and related schedules and attachments.
  • Prepares PBGC filings.
  • Prepares and reviews due diligence plan documents in connection with mergers, acquisitions, stock sales and asset sales of subsidiaries or divisions.
  • Prepares board resolutions and unanimous written consents.
  • Promotes effective work practices, works as a team member, and shows respect for co-workers.

As a Paralegal II – ERISA, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Paralegal II – ERISA must possess the ability to manage time well, prioritize effectively, handle multiple deadlines and work overtime and after-hours when client requirements demand and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.  An ideal candidate will be proficient in organizing, managing and data and will display knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, including MS Office and Excel.  A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program preferred.  A minimum of four (4) years of paralegal or equivalent experience in the area of employee benefits law is required.
