Professional Development Coordinator

Overview:

The Professional Development Coordinator will leverage his or her writing and analytical skills to support the Firm’s associate professional development efforts. The coordinator will work closely with New York lawyers at all levels of seniority and the full professional development team to facilitate a robust annual associate review process, and to carry out a number of new and ongoing associate development efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Annual associate review process for associates in New York office:
    • Solicit feedback from senior lawyers, including via in-person discussion sessions.
    • Synthesize and delineate feedback into Firm core skills language.
    • Prepare, update and analyze charts on status of annual associate reviews.
    • Determine whether certain associates would benefit from a mid-year review and solicit feedback from senior lawyers, as needed.
  • Associate staffing:
    • Execute and distribute monthly staffing reports to relevant senior lawyers.
    • Monitor and prepare reports about associate hours.
    • Facilitate regular staffing meetings with senior lawyers, in connection with associate development and work allocation discussions.
    • Follow-up on issues raised during staffing meetings and develop individual plans, as needed.
    • Serve as an information gatekeeper, exercising discretion in passing relevant information through the appropriate channels and working with the appropriate senior lawyers to handle staffing issues.
  • New associate mentor program:
    • Assist with the selection of mentoring committee members and mentor pairings for the incoming associates.
    • Organize and facilitate quarterly mentor debriefings with mentors to discuss mentor relationships.
  • Liaise with Training and CLE department to ensure that training programs are informed by annual associate reviews, staffing meetings and mentor debriefings, and to provide associate coaching, as needed.
  • Maintain internal records pertaining to associate arrivals and departures, leaves, and transfers.
  • General administrative assistance on ad-hoc projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 2+ years of Professional Development or HR-related experience in a fast-paced environment. Law firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be comfortable working with lawyers at all seniority levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exercises good judgment, has excellent organizational skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive team player.
  • Ability to multi-task among competing demands.
  • Experience with viDesktop a plus.
