- Monday-Friday, 4:30pm – 12:30am
- Monday-Friday, 12:30am – 8:30am
- Saturday and Sunday nights, shift starts at 12 midnight and free to work past their scheduled 8 hour shift, up to 12 hour total. OT is paid, but cannot work more than 28 hours a weekend.
Premier, global, law firm, in the heart of the downtown, financial district has three open opportunities in their proofreading department.
Proofread a wide variety of legal documents for accuracy, consistency, typographical and grammatical errors, and clarity according to firm style and format guidelines. Candidate joins a global services information processing team with a focus on expert work product and first-class customer service.
- Extensive proofreading experience, specifically in a large law firm environment with a broad understanding of legal terminology
• Competence in all phases of proofreading, including manual redlining
• Expert knowledge of written English: spelling, grammar, punctuation, usage
• Proficiency in use of standard proofreading symbols
• Familiarity with legal documentation and a good understanding of legal terminology
• Ability to recognize inconsistencies in text and format in documents of any size
• Effective communication skills both written and oral; neat, legible handwriting
• Ability to organize and prioritize work as assigned; multitask and pick up pace under deadline pressure
• Capable of maintaining updated knowledge of procedures and standards
• Ability to operate a personal computer and related software (Windows, MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, EagleEye-for Def Checks and Cross References)
• Self-starter, detail-oriented, and team player
• Must have a flexible schedule and be open to overtime
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred, but will consider experienced proofreaders in lieu of a degree. Must possess a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience working as a full-time proofreader in a legal word processing department or in-house legal department. Must have a working knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, EagleEye-for Def Checks and Cross References. Knowledge of Blue Book Citation Format a plus.
