Banking Real Estate Paralegal

Overview

The Banking Real Estate Paralegal will work independently and collaboratively with the Banking Partners, attorneys, legal assistants and paralegals, as well as Business Development, to assist with real estate matters on syndicated loan transactions and the maintenance of Banking databases.

Responsibilities

Working cohesively with all attorneys and provides explanatory assistance when requested; providing real estate information, forms and documents; ordering and/or reviewing surveys, title commitments, pro-formas and flood hazard forms; assisting with drafting and filing mortgages, deeds of trust, amendments and releases, which may include legal descriptions; assisting at closings by checking, drafting, notarizing and revising documents as necessary; conferring with title company with respect to title commitments and legal descriptions as well as comparing final title policies against marked-up commitments presented at closing and submits them to the title company for revision;  assisting with indexes, organizing and maintaining real estate transaction and flood hazard determination form binders; coordinating all post-closing correspondence and deliverables in regards to mortgages, title policies and flood hazard determination forms; reviewing and alerting attorneys of any potential problems existing within a transaction as well as presenting possible solutions; corresponding and conferring with outside parties, service companies, title companies and surveyors to ensure quality service; assisting with the creation of real estate post-closing document-tracking charts to maintain clear records of all recorded documents and title policies received; ensuring that all correspondence and documents are sent to Records; assisting the Senior Banking Real Estate Paralegal in maintaining and regularly updating a real estate procedural binder to ensure that the latest requirements, procedures, contacts and “best practices” are being documented; making suggestions on how to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of specific tasks or the Banking Group as a whole; as well as performing other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; Notary Public license; a minimum of two years’ experience as a legal assistant in a corporate Real Estate or Banking practice; advanced knowledge of word processing and database applications; strong oral and written communication skills; an extremely detail-oriented work manner; the ability to multitask; the ability to effectively delegate tasks to others; the initiative to work independently and make judgments and decisions as appropriate; the ability to work well under pressure and follow instructions; and the availability to work overtime, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
