Senior Paralegal – Corporate (Real Estate)

Job Description
- Assists attorneys with their responsibilities and assignments in connection with the real estate and finance transaction management.
- Day-to-day transaction and database management; reviews, drafts, and prepares legal documents; conducts due diligence and research;
- Exhibits technical skills consistent with new and existing Firm technology;
- Proficient with respect to filing procedures and filing jurisdictions;
- Assists in training and mentoring less experienced paralegals;
- Assists supervisor and/or team leader with staffing requests, distribution of workload and development of training programs;
- Reviews title abstracts and summarizes title commitments, exception documents; prepares title objection letters and coordinates with opposing counsel, title companies and surveyors;
- Reviews surveys, plats, legal descriptions for accuracy and chain of title noting defects, encumbrances, liens, easements, breaks in the chain, etc.;
- Reviews and summarizes leases, appraisals, property condition reports, environmental reports, zoning reports and licenses;
- Reviews acquisition agreements, prepares closing checklist, compiles and maintains key contract dates schedule;
- Assists with pre-closing, closing and post-closing matters;
- Obtains, reviews and charts lien searches and fixture filings, as well as prepares and files UCC financing statements and UCC abstracts/charts;
- Provides overflow assistance to peers/team members within department to further enhance departmental operations; and promotes a positive work and team environment;
- Interacts with departmental paralegal clerk(s), including the monitoring and coordinating of assigned duties and tasks;
- Maintains time records ensuring accurate and timely release of DTE entries;
- Assumes other duties and/or assists with special projects as requested by the Paralegal Supervisor.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- College degree, paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited program, or comparable work experience, preferably in a law firm;
- Minimum of eight (8) years real estate paralegal experience required;
- Displays expertise in areas of essential functions; understands and applies current information, technology, and resources necessary to best achieve work results;
- Exhibits strong leadership skills;
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Ability to work well under pressure and with constant interruptions;
- Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills in communications in person, by e-mail and telephone and provides information with courtesy and tact; follows instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff;
- Ability to handle high-pressured situations in a courteous and professional manner;
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints;
- Ability to lift/move boxes weighing approximately 25 lbs. and ability to retrieve and replace boxes/files from shelves of up to 8 feet high;
- Ability to work overtime hours and travel, if needed or requested.
