Network Engineer

Philadelphia, PA

The Network Engineer will develop strategies for defining, deploying, and maintaining Unified Communications and Collaboration architecture and its associated network connections and component hardware. The candidate will manage engineering projects for network initiatives, plan technology roadmaps, and configure and optimize data, video and voice services. Although the primary focus of this position is to implement and support the underlying UC and Collaboration network infrastructure, the engineer will also be tasked with general network support and build-outs including security, routing, switching, wireless services and other network related duties. The Engineer will be required to provide mentoring, training, and support staff as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts high-level UC architecture analysis, evaluation, design, integration, documentation, and development.
  • Collaborates across AV and IT Infrastructure teams to translate complex UC concepts into tactical action and implementation plans.
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshoot network problems and outages; schedule upgrades; perform baselining and capacity planning; perform network optimization.
  • Provide reporting on network operational status.
  • Provide day-to-day support, proactive maintenance, and perform independent complex system troubleshooting.
  • Monitor communications performance using diagnostic equipment, visual checking, and status indicator methods to locate problems.
  • Implement network security devices and applications as required in support of internal security initiatives
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Define and update departmental network documentation and databases.
  • Identify capacity and performance issues to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Advise management in the operational, strategic planning, and business continuity / disaster recovery solutions.
  • Coordinate project teams for larger network initiatives and periodically take a lead project role.
  • Manage vendor activities and verify invoices and expenses relating to circuit installation base, services provided and support requirements.
  • Audit network expenses and recommend expense reduction initiatives.
  • Write business correspondence for recommendations, project support, and customer service purposes.
  • Continue personal development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Overtime and On-Call as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, configuring, and implementing enterprise-class Cisco networks, supporting CoS, Qos, Data, Video and Voice services
  • Cisco, CTS, AMX, Crestron, Clearone, and Biamp certifications highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience planning, designing, and analyzing UC systems on a mid-to-large scale.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing and operating Cisco Video Teleconference (VTC) bridging and conferencing systems and endpoints.
  • Minimum 5 years of working knowledge with LAN, WAN, IP network architectures and design principles including IPv4, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, Routing and Switching.
  • Minimum 5 years in IP routing protocols and working knowledge of IPv6, BGP, MPLS, OSPF, VPNs, multicast, and IP mobility.
  • Hands-on experience with data and voice products including Cisco Routers, Cisco Switches, Cisco Unified Communications Manager / Call Manager, Cisco Voice Gateways, Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) functionality, Networking troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience implementing QoS/CoS policies and priority queuing – WAN & LAN.
  • Understanding of Data/ Video/Voice/VoIP service provisioning methods, service delivery, SLA metrics, and procedures.
  • Understanding of enterprise architectures, routing, and transport protocols.
  • Understanding of Network Security fundamentals.
  • IPSLA & Netflow monitoring/management.
  • Understanding of data/voice circuit provisioning and troubleshooting MPLS, ISND PRI.
  • Understanding of multiple media types and protocols, MPLS, Ethernet.
  • Understanding of VOIP protocols and Codecs MGCP,SIP, RTP, T.38 G.711 G.729.a, H.323.
  • May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Minimal travel to regional offices. Travel will be out of state.
