Position Summary
The Revenue Controller is responsible for coordinating multiple aspects of revenue generation for a specific legal practice group. The Revenue Controller will work closely with the billing partners in their practice area and senior management to assist them in enhancing the financial aspects of their book of business. A primary focus of the Revenue Controller is to ensure timely and effective cash flow practices with respect to the Firm’s clients and support the assigned Regional Section with any financial data and analyses needed. The Revenue Controller must be able to provide meaningful analysis, draw conclusions from the results, and make appropriate recommendations. The successful candidate is required to have strong communication, analytical, and presentation skills to support the Firm’s attorneys and senior management.
Responsibilities
The primary focus will be to meet often with assigned billing partners and lead discussions regarding the overall financial status of clients and opportunities to bill and collect Firm inventory. From such discussions, monthly billing and collection targets based on Work-in-Progress and Accounts Receivable balances will be established.
- Report monthly progress against billing and collection targets and other key metrics to senior management.
- Provide monthly presentation of the group’s financial results versus budget and prior year to Regional Section Head (“RSH”) and senior management. Responsible for providing the financial forecast and projections of the group’s outlook at different points in the year.
- Identify and communicate billings and collections issues to billing partners and senior management as appropriate.
- Act as main liaison between partners and the finance department by overseeing billings, collections and write-offs and develop metrics to communicate impact on billing realization and profitability.
- Identify matter management improvement opportunities and make respective recommendations.
- Monitor and enforce the timely and accurate inputs of timekeeper diaries to ensure prompt billing.
- Provide profitability analysis using proprietary modeling tools and data warehousing system. Use such tools to help illuminate to partners and senior management how different components and levers drive profitability in each situation.
- Oversee the yearly budget process for the regional section, in direct liaison with the RSH. Key tasks include timekeeper rate setting, headcount analysis and understanding the pipeline of new business. Responsible for statistical modeling of different budget scenarios. Continuous review of client and matter level discounts, to confirm such are within the tolerance levels as set forth in the Firm’s Global Protocols and Policy.
- Work in conjunction with the Financial Compliance group to monitor the opening of new matters to ensure proper billing rates and fee structures are utilized as governed by matter and client fee arrangements.
- Liaise with the collections team to facilitate the collections of client receivables and also the cash receipts team to ensure proper application of funds received from clients
- Engage directly with clients on behalf of partners, to facilitate discussions on inventory, client accrual reporting, client set up procedures, or any other client specific request.
- Perform various ad hoc analyses for senior management, which will include, but not limited to, PowerPoint presentation and information gathering for client Requests for Proposals (“RFP’s”).

Education/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
- A minimum of 4-5 years of relevant professional services industry experience with additional financial management experience beneficial.

- The Revenue Controller must have a background in Finance or Accounting. S/he must possess strong multi-tasking skills to successfully balance competing priorities. Due to dealing with stakeholders across multiple geographical locations, the candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be detail-oriented, analytical and be a self-starter. Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to be flexible as part of a team, are critical to being successful.
