Court Clerk

Reports To:  Managing Attorney and Managing Clerk

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating litigation calendar; for the calendaring of all litigation matters and other matters as requested; for verifying the sufficiency of the form of documents prior to filing; for performing paraprofessional tasks to support the litigation department; for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with vendors and court personnel.
  • Review documents to be served and filed for compliance with applicable rules.
  • Establish a proficiency with various e-filing protocols; responsible for electronic filing of documents.
  • Docket and calendar case information including input of calendar information to the firm’s automated calendar system from court documents, correspondence, rules and statutes. Prepare and distribute weekly attorney litigation calendar.
  • Coordinate with document retrieval services, process servers and other litigation vendors.
  • Develop proficiency with federal, state and local rules and apply knowledge in connection with service and filing issues, and monitor developments in same. Conduct research utilizing electronic research technologies and maintain proficiency in same.
  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Timely and regular attendance.
  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a Managing Attorney’s Office or related legal environment.
  • Ability to work independently, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work under pressure and to facilitate solutions essential.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, writing and interpersonal skills with a strong service orientation and an ability to build effective working relationships with vendors and court personnel.
  • Experience with automated calendar management/case docketing systems required.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Overtime required.

Note:  As with all positions, the Court Clerk will be required to perform other duties as deemed necessary and assigned.
