The paralegal position in the NY office is responsible for maintaining files and pleadings, creating and editing memoranda, project work, in addition to proofreading and ensuring high quality of legal documents.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The job encounters recurring and new varied work situations of moderate degree of complexity. Contacts are normally made with others inside and outside the firm including immediate partners, associates, members of other departments or other offices, clients and court personnel, and other professionals. Contacts are usually made at the supervisor’s request and/or on individual initiative and concern matters requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation or approval.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
-Maintain pleading files
-File maintenance (general filing, keeping documents well organized)
-Create and maintain working files for attorneys
-Indexing files for long-term storage
-Filing documents with the courts; providing judges with courtesy copies of documents. Accessing State of Connecticut Judicial Department Website to determine the status of cases and to review the short calendar and court forms.
-Provide general Internet research including pulling cases from Lexis and Westlaw, as needed
-Assist with the general aspects of document productions (redacting, copying, Bates
stamping)
-Generally assist with filing motions by gather and page checking supporting exhibits
-Maintaining Compulaw database of case related deadlines
-Perform other job related duties as assigned and assist attorneys when needed

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

-Must possess strong technical skills, including typing, and have an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, iManage/FileSite and Elite. Knowledge of Compulaw preferred but not required.
-Strong communication skills – the ability to express self effectively, both orally and in writing.
-Interpersonal skills – the ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues.
-Solid command of the English language including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form and style.
-Ability to compose correspondence.
-Knowledge of library operations and records storage procedures for retrieving materials and
files.
-Familiarity with legal terminology pertinent to the area of assignment.
-Enthusiastic, motivated, team player.

EXPERIENCE
2-4 years (with at least 2 as a litigation paralegal)

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
