Professional Development Director, US

The Professional Development Director, US, will help manage the Legal Talent Department’s legal training and development functions across all US offices to help fulfill the firm’s strategic goal of providing a supportive, high performance culture to all attorneys.

  • Work with the Deputy Chair for Talent, the Chief Human Resources Officer, and/or other designated Firm Partners and Executives as well as the Practice Group Leadership to assign incoming US fall associates to designated Practice Groups and providing onboarding related information and assistance to those newly assigned to a specific Practice Group.
  • Working with the Global Director of Legal Talent and others within the Legal Talent Team, play a leadership role in the planning of US fall associate orientation, associate retreats and associate special events.
  • Play a leadership role in the planning and conducting of lateral US associate orientations, as well as outreach to US lateral partners, to help integrate new attorneys to the firm.
  • Play a leadership role in reviewing associate evaluations and identifying related issues.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to all US based training and development functions, including CLE, the Critical Skills Institute, and Mentoring Programs.
  • Help manage the Exceptional Teachers Awards process.
  • Provide support for both the Partner Development Program and the Alumni Relations program.
  • Assist in research for and preparations of Firm Partner and other Firm leader presentations, including the annual State of the Firm Address, presentations to new and summer associates, and presentations at orientations.
  • Manage and review the Firm’s responses to various surveys including Vault, Am Law Midlevel, Chambers and other publications.
  • Monitor and ensure that all US attorneys are licensed and compliant with bar regulations and answering bar-related questions.
  • Serve as a general resource for Firm Leaders, Practice Group Leaders and others on policies and procedures.
  • Work with Marketing to provide talent-related information for RFPs.

Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctor preferred.
  • Law firm experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Relevant and significant experience in a law firm administration role, including training and developing lawyers.
    Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, problem -solving, and management skills.
  • Outstanding presentation skills; confident speaking before large groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) and other relevant technology tools, online learning, video streaming and videoconferencing.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills and detail orientation.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple concurrent projects to coordinate own work.
